The Non-Teaching Staff of University of Ilorin have been directed to resume work today Friday, March 16, 2018.
The Branch Chairman of the Joint Action Committee,JAC, of the three unions in the University of Ilorin, Comrade Mohammed Akanbi announced the decision of the National JAC to suspend the strike at an emergency congress on Thursday.
Akanbi who is also the UNILORIN Branch Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities told the Congress that the Union had received strong commitment from the government to pay the Earned Allowance within five weeks.
It would be recalled that members of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) had embarked on strike since December 4, 2017 following the failure of government to implement some of the contents of the agreement of 20th September, 2017 with JAC.
Chairman of NAAT, UNILORIN, Comrade Femi Awolola also told the Congress that the agreement was signed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah; President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Comrade Samson Ugokwe; President of the National Association Academic Technologists (NAAT), Sani Suleiman and General Secretary of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Peters Adeyemi.
Comrade Haruna Ibrahim, Chairman of NASU, UNILORIN Branch enjoined members of the three Unions to resume work with full force by taking their work seriously.
He said members of the three unions shall not hesitate to resume the strike if government reneges on the agreements reached.#
