….pledges to improve the school’s academic activities
The 1993 academic set of the Government Secondary School, Ilorin has been inaugurated with a view to improving the teaching and learning and overall development of their alma mata.
The alumni of the College also constituted a constitution drafting committee and agreed to open a bank account for the set, for safe keeping of all the money gathered for the purpose of developing the school and other related projects.
The Chairman of the set, Mr Adeniran Adebisi Dave in his opening remark at the inaugural get together/End of the Year party organized by the alumni.
Adebisi also thanked members for creating time to attend the programme despite the current fuel challenges being faced by the entire Nigerians.
The Chairman said the essence of the inauguration of the 1993 academic set of the school was to foster unity and progress among the former students of the College.
He added that the importance of the gathering was to device a means by which the old students could assist the school in promoting teaching and learning since the task of providing quality education goes beyond the effort of the government alone.
According to him, ” our reason for coming together was to look at a possible means by which we can jointly assist our alma mata ”
“We are coming together to form a formidable team to give back to the school and the society what the school has given to us. Today, we are all happy and proud of whatever position we are holding because our teachers and the school had impacted positively in us”.
Adeniran charged all members of the set to always accommodate one another and imbibe the spirit of love, tolerance, and friendship.
He also disclosed that a data base would be opened for the members and all information about members will be Mars available in the data bank.
In his advice for the old students, a former teacher of the students, Mr Ogunwole Timothy Olayinka observed that there is a peaceful co-existence between all the members of the set.
Ogunwole, a staff of the Directorate of school services, Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development thanked his former students for extending invitation to him.
He said, ” the discipline that we enforced on you when you were students were to prepared you for future, and to be accepted by the society.
“Today, am extremely happy and proud of every one of you just because all our efforts on you were bear fruitful results”
The former teacher enjoined his former students to continue to be prayerful, determined, and remain focused.
“Presently we are undergoing very hard and difficult times in the country, we must never relent , we should always pray to God and be hard working . It is my hope and belief that things will change for better for every one of us and our families”he added.
At the end of the event, one of the members of the set, who is an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Muhammad Kadir Segun, educated members on the dangers associated with drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking .
Segun solicited support of his members for the NDLEA so as to unanimously keep society free of drug abuse.
Also at the event, Mr Ogunjobi Timothy was decorated by one of the members of the set, Honourable Sharafa Akorede, former TIC , Oyun local government area of kwara state.
