Public Work Programme: Committee begins forms distribution for 16,000 jobs in Kwara

The Kwara State Selection Committee for Public Work Programme, said the committee would ensure transparency in the selection of beneficiaries across the state.

The public work programm of the federal was designated to provide 774,000 jobs across the 774 local governments in the country to cushion the effects of COVID- 19.

The programme which is meant to provide jobs for unskilled labourer will run for three months.

The Chairman of the state Selection Committee, Oluwasegun Oyewo gave the assurance in Ilorin yesterday during the distribution of forms to the beneficiaries.

Some of the wards visited for distribution of forms by the committee included Ogidi Ward in Ilorin West Local, Balogun Fulani Ward in Ilorin South Local Government, Sango ward in Ilorin East Local Government,
Ogele community in Asa Local Government and Pake Area in Ilorin East.

Oyewo explained that the programme was meant for poor and vulnerable persons in the country.

He added that the selection committee would do everything possible to ensure that the targeted beneficiaries were not shortchanged.

He said that the selection would not base on any political affinity once the applicants are within the age of 18-50 years and resides in Kwara state.

The Chairman noted further that no fewer than 16,000 beneficiaries would be selected in the state, adding that the programme would commence by October 2020 and ends in December 2020.

He assured that the beneficiaries would be paid as and when due once they are selected and come to work punctually.

Speaking during the distribution of forms in his Ogidi Ward community,
Daudu Banni, Alhaji Abdulkareem Suleiman appreciated President Muhammad Buhari for the programme which he said would go along way in reducing poverty in the country especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

He however appealed the Federal Government to increase the number of beneficiaries to accommodate more jobless people.
