Federation of Muslims Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Kwara State branch has called on the state government to ensure periodic fumigation of markets and provide social safety net to ameliorate the effect of sit-at-home directive of the government in the state.
The call was made when the kwara state committee on Covid 19 paid a visit to the FOMWAN at the association’s secretariat along Fate road, Ilorin, the kwara state capital.
The association also commended the state government for fumigating all principal markets in Ilorin in the mid night of Thursday (April 2, 2020) and called on religious leaders to follow suit in Mosques and Churches as well as schools to contain the spread of this pandemic viral disease.
The Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID 19 during the week visited FOMWAN with and advice to take advantage of it’s tentacles across the nation to spread information about the existence of Covid 19 and the need to embrace precuationary measures to halt it’s further spread in the country.
The committee, under the leadership of Emir of Tsonga, Dr Yahaya Haliru, made the call during it’s visit to FOMWAN Secretariat in Ilorin as part of committee’s frantic efforts to combat the spread of Coronavirus in kwara state.
Dr Haliru who spoke through a former Permanent Secretary from the state Civil Service, Mrs Ajiboye enjoined FOMWAN to serve as a formidable foot soldier of government in spreading the message to the grassroot.
Ajiboye described FOMWAN as a potent tool for the actualisation of the aggressive advocacy and wide spread campaign on this deadly disease called Covid 19.
She lamented the high rate of non compliance by market women and called on FOMWAN and WOWICAN to re-invigorate efforts towards increasing awareness for the market women to comply with government’s order.
Also speaking among the visiting team, an Ilorin based Islamic cleric, Imam Fulani commended FOMWAN for complying with sit-at-home policy of the government as part of measures to stop the spread of Covid 19, saying that their sitting arrangements in the hall also depicted their strict compliance to social distance advice.
Fulani said the Committee, under the leadership of the Emir of Tsonga, Dr Haliru, appealed to all Muslims to engage in aggressive enlightenment and admonition to other faithfuls to maintain the stay at home directive for safety of all and sundry.
He also stressed the need for everyone to provide necessary facilities for washing of hands with soap and water including hand sanitizer in their variius homes.
In her comment, the National Trustee of FOMWAN, Hajia Sanni, thanked the Covid 19 committee members for their visit to the association and described their visitation as very timely and worthwhile.
She gave assurance that the facility provided would go along way in helping the association to pass the message to all it’s members across the 16 local government areas of the state, just as she sought for more to be able to cover large number of people.
She urged residents not to await the outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic before preaching and maintaining hygienic environment.
Sanni also appealed to the state government to fumigate markets monthly and establishe hygienic toilet facilities for functioning sanitation, even as she called for the need to establish toilet facilities in Mosques to prevent future outbreak of diseases.
In her remarks, Dr Barakat Raji of Faculity of Law University of Ilorin, urged the state Government to create room for palliative measure towards quenching hunger among residents.
The Amirah of Criterion, enjoined Governemt to ensure social distance during distribution of palliatives to prevent further spread of the virus.
Trustee of FOMWAN, Hajia Muslimah Kamaldeen enjoined state government to establish wash hand basin system at every class in schools, market places, religious centres and in all public places, adding that the song of hygiene should be reintroduced in morning devotion in schools.
Meanwhile, a former commissioner for education in the state, Hajia Halimah yusuf enjoined religious harmony among all faithfuls.
Meanwhile FOMWAN Amirah, Hajia Maimuna Sheu appreciated the team and beseech Almighty Allah to increase His protection over all.
