The joint committee of NASU and SSANU of the University of Ilorin branch has embarked on a-five day total strike as directed by the National body of the unions to press home their agitations for the Earned allowances and other demands.
Other demands including matters affecting the Uinversity school, and renegotiation of 2009 agreements.
The strike action, which commenced today Monday August 19, 201, is expected to last till Friday, 23rd of August 2019.
The main gate of the University had since 7:00am been closed down and the concerned union members were stopped from gaining entrance in to the campus.
Only members of ASUU and NAAT are allowed to enter while some principal officers of the University that are members of ASUU drove themselves as their drivers and security personnel attached to them were prevented from going in.
Addressing members at the main gate, the Chairman of the University of Ilorin NASU, Comrade Haruna Ibrahim, said the strike became necessary following the federal government’s failure to address their agitations over the 30b earned allowances, University school matters and renagotiation of 2009 aggreements.
Comrade Ibrahim said the unions would begin on indefinite strike action if government refuses to comply with their demands
Also addressing the teeming members of the two unions, the Chairman of SSANU, Comrade Mohammad Jimoh Akanbi, said the sharing formula of the recently released earned allowances between the ASUU and other three unions that made up the non teaching staff is unacceptable and in appropriate.
Akanbi said the 80 ratio 20 sharing formula of the recently distributed earned allowances between the teaching and non teaching staff of the University shows high-level of injustice, disparity and human in-human treatment.
