The Sarkin Driver of Ilorin Alhaji Salihu Olarongbe has passed on.
The late Olarongbe was turbaned Sarkin Driver of Ilorin by the 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulukarnaini Gambari.
The late Sarkin Driver until his death was the official driver in the palace starting from the rein of the 9th Emir of Ilorin.
He died in the early hours of Monday, 25th March, 2019.
The deceased attained prominence in the socio-cultural and political configurations of Ilorin Emirate following his close working relationship with the 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Zulukarnaini Gambari Muhammad, who turbanned him as the 1st Seriki Driver of Ilorin in the mid-1980s.
His popularity and prominence attained its apogee during the tenure of the incumbent Emir during,which he took-up so many leadership roles in the Emirate under the watch of Emir Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari(CFR).
He also became a prominent political figure who participated actively in partisan politics and was a notable political kingmaker,particularly as it affected the Ilorin East LGA.
Alhaji Salihu Olarongbe was on so many occasions tasked with the responsibility of tying turban during the corronation of some traditional chiefs of the Ilorin Emirate.
May Allah over-look his shortcomings and grant his relations and the people of the Emirate the fortitude to bear his demise.
