……As Becky’s Foundation celebrates independence with People Living With Disabilities (PLWD)
A Consultant to the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Barrister Biola Adimula has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to a Bill that seeks for the protection of People Living With Disabilities in Nigeria.
Barrister Adimular, who is also a Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Kwara State on Women Affirs, said the bill, when singed into law, will protect the rights and privileges of people living with disabilities in this country.
Adimula made call in Ilorin during the Becky’s Foundation’s visitation to Kwara State Rehabilitation Center, Amoyo, as part of the foundation’s activities to mark the country’s 58th Independent Anniverssary.
She explained that PLWD and orphans deserve government attention in the areas of job opportunity, sound and qualitative education, good health and other basic necessities of life that will make their living more bearable and convenient.
She stated that the rights of these segment of citizens in the country should be given utmost priority inview of their challenges, saying that the earlier government sign the Bill into law the better for the society at large because they are also part of the society.
She explained that the Bill on people living with disability was submitted to the former President Good Luck Jonathan but sufferred set back, added that same Bill has also been forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent.
Adimula appealed to the president to assent to the bill, added that signing this Bill into law will depitc that the present administration in the country is running government of inclusiveness where the interest of every category of the citizens is adequately catered for.
She disclised that Lagos state government had signed the Bill into law adding that it has translated into good living condition of people living with disability in Lagos state.
Speaking on Becky’s Foundation’s efforts at adding value to the life of the less privilege in the society, Adimula said the foundation decided to three chldren/orphanage homes and a rehabilitation center to show them love and affection through provision of food stuff and other items for their up keep.
The places visited are Leah Children Reception Center, Ilorin; Kwara State Children Reception Center, Ilorin; Kwara State Rahabikitation Center, Amoyo; and Inioluwa Orphanage Home, Omu-Aran all in kwara state.
Addressing the press shortly before the visitation, founder of the foundation, Miss Rebecca Ayooluwa Adimula (Becky), explained that Becky’s Foundation is a Non Governmental Organisation, non political and non profit making organisation that strives at making the world a better place for people living with disabilities.
She added that the foundation has been on the need to care for the less privileged through giving awards, schorlaships, and the likes, saying that the foundation had since its establishement in 2015 been carrying out various lofty programmes for the people living with disabilities.
“This year, we are making oir independence day a special day, so that beneficiaries of today can understand the need of independence in their lives and at the same time, discourage them over dependence on family or government and encourage them to be the best they can be for themselves and their families” she said.
In their separate comments, the officer incharge of Children Reception Center, Pipeline road Ilorin, Alhaja Yemisi A. Bello and the Principal of the Kwara State Rahabikitation Center, Amoyo, Mrs Ibrahim Kubura Bolanle thanked the members of the foundation for sharing moment of joy with people living with disabilities on the auspicious occasion of the 58th independence anniverssary of Nigeria.
In her address at each of the places visited, a 17 year old Miss Rebecca Ayooluwa Adimula (Becky), the founder of the foundation commended the staff of the each center for taking conscious effort at making life bearable for the children under their care.
Highlight of the event included presentation of various food stuff, beverages, noodles, group photograps among others.
