As both primary and secondary school students are warming up to resume on 17th of September, 2018 from long vacation, the Kwara State Government has warned Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary School (ANCOPSS) in the state to adhere strictly to the government’s free education policy.
The State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Bilikis Oniyangi sounded this note of warning on Wednesday in her office when she had an interactive session with representatives of both PTA and ANCOPSS.
Oniyangi affirmed that no student in both junior and senior secondary schools in the state should be made to pay school fees except PTA levy that had already been approved by the state government.
The commissioner disclosed that the approved PTA levies to be paid by the returning students of junior secondary schools is N1,450 and the new intake will pay the sum of N5, 180 while the returning and new intake of Senior secondary school will pay the sum of N1,500 and N5,400 respectively.
Oniyangi therefore reiterated the state government’s commitment towards providing sound and qualitative education for students in the state.
The commissioner urged the two critical stakeholders (PTA & ANCOPSS) to cooperate with the state government in its strive to add more value to educational system in the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the state PTA Chairman who doubles as the first Makama of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye thanked the state government for creating an enabling environment for PTA to contribute its quota towards the development of education in the state.
In her remarks, the state Secretary of ANCOPSS, Mrs R.O. Adeoti appreciated the state commissioner for Education for her support and motherly roles she has been playing in making life easy for parents in the state.
Adeoti gave assurance that the approved PTA levies as being highlighted by the Commissioner would be adhered to by all government owned schools in the state.
