Nigerian universities have been urged to adapt to the rapidly changing academic environment, and prioritise both academic rigour and research relevance to remain competitive.
Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), made the call during his address on Wednesday 6th of August 2925 at the 3rd KU8+ International Conference held at KWASU International Conference Center in Ilorin.
According to Professor Jimoh, Nigeria’s growth and development hinge on tertiary institutions’ ability to translate research into practical, people-oriented solutions that improve lives and contribute to nation-building.
He emphasised KWASU’s commitment to staying ahead in the academic landscape, investing in people, systems, and ideas.
The Vice Chancellor also expressed gratitude to the KU8+ University Consortium for fostering collaboration and sharing ideas among universities, noting that KWASU is proud to be part of this growing network.
In his address, the Chairman of KU8+ Consortium who is also the Vice Chamcellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole said KU8+ is a Consortium of about 13 universities in Kwara State.

He explained that the Consortium was established in January 2023 with eight founding universities pointing out that today’s event marks the third conference of the Consortium, following those hosted by the University of Ilorin and Al-Hikmah University, respectively.
