The Chief Imam of Muhammad Kabir Ibn Yusuf Mosque Foundation, Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, Imam Jaafar Ibrahim Ishaq has issued a stern warning to Muslims about the dangers of seeking guidance from soothsayers.
According to the Imam, listening to and believing in predictions made by these individuals can have serious spiritual consequences.
Mallam Jaafar disclosed on Friday (April 18, 2025) during his Jumm’ah Sermon titled ‘Trust in Allah”
Imam Jaafar who highlighted the importance of adhering to Islamic teachings and seeking guidance from authentic sources, such as the glorious Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), quoted Prophet Muhammad to have said in his Hadith that whomever listen to and believe in predictions of soothsayer of fortune-teller is oughtrightly out of the fold of Islam.
According to the Imam, someone who listens to a soothsayer without believing them will have their daily prayers (Solat) rejected by Allah for 40 days and it is a must for him to observe solat for the period of that 40 days.
He added that Prophet said someone who listens to and believes in the messages of a soothsayer is considered to have renounced their faith until they sincerely repent and reaffirm their Islamic beliefs, which may involve reciting the Shahada (Kalimah) again.
Imam Jaafar described all soothsayers as liars, stating that they derive their messages from jinns who eavesdrop on divine communications between Allah and angels, adding that during this process, many jinns are destroyed or injured, while a few survivors manage to convey distorted or partial messages to the soothsayers.
He urged all Muslims to fully embrace Islam by adhering to its teachings as outlined in the Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), emphasizing that true believers must follow the faith in its entirety.
