KWSG, HCD Office host media workshop to promote Human Capital Development

The event, which  was chaired by the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Mr. Kayode Alabi, was targeted at reinforcing the critical role of media in advancing HCD initiatives.

In her address, the Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju lauded  the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to digital and innovative initiatives, such as the Innovation Hub, which provides training opportunities for youth.

The Commissioner advised media professionals to leverage on these initiatives, emphasizing that media is more than just news reporting but a tool for societal transformation.

Delivering the keynote address at the well attended event held at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ilorin,  kwara State,  Dr. Aishat Imam-Omoloso, who was represented on the occasion by Dr. Abdulkadir Oba Laaro emphasized the importance of  investment in human capital for driving sustainable development.

A high-powered panel session featured notable media experts and academic guru, including: Dr. Abdulkadir Oba Laaro, Hajiya Zulfa Adeyemi and Mr. Ajayi Adeyemi. 

Their discussions focused on the role of the media in raising awareness towards advancing HCD initiative in Kwara State.

Earlier in her opening remarks, Hon. (Dr) Mariam Nnafatima Imam, explained that Human Capital Development is about people ensuring they are healthy, educated, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to society.

 Dr Imam further noted that Kwara State, under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has made significant progress, including; Increased school enrollment, ensuring more children have access to quality education; Expanded healthcare services, with a focus on mothers and children.

Others include Empowerment programs for women and youth by equipping them with the skills needed to drive Kwara’s economic growth.

Also in attendance was the Director General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Comrade Issa Aremu mni, along with other distinguished personalities, making the event a resounding success.

This remarkable workshop reaffirms Kwara State’s commitment to Human Capital Development, with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs leading the charge in amplifying HCD initiatives across the State. 

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) noted that the engagement of media professionals is a significant step towards achieving a more informed, educated, and empowered society.

The SSA on SDGs, serves as the Focal Person for HCD in the State.
