KWASU Set to Commence Academic Activities at Osi Campus

The Olosi of Osi, Oba Salihu Abdulkareem Arowobeku, has expressed profound joy and satisfaction over the commencement of Kwara State University’s Osi Campus in the Kwara South senatorial district of the state. 

Oba Abdulkareem made this known on Wednesday (August 14, 2024) when the KWASU Governong Council,  led by the Pro-Chanchellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali paid him a royal homage in his Palace at Osi, just as the monarch described the presence of the KWASU satellite campus in the area as a dream come true, saying it is a milestone for the community and the state at large.

The Olosi of Osi, who is the Chairman of Traditional Council in Ekiti local government, appreciated the state government and the university management for their tireless efforts in making this project a reality. 

The Olosi of Osi expressed his gratitude to the state government for bringing development to the doorsteps of his people, and promised the readiness of the community to embrace both staff and students warmly,  saying that Osi is known for warm reception and hospitality. 

Earlier in his address,  the KWASU Council Chairman, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali said the Campus is expected to boost economic activities in the area, create jobs, and provide opportunities for the local population. 

“The commencement of the campus marks a significant milestone in the history of Kwara State University. I want to assure you that the campus will offer a range of academic programs, cutting-edge research facilities, and state-of-the-art infrastructure” he promised.

He urged the community to take ownership of the project and support the university management in ensuring the campus’s success, stressing the need for collaboration between the university, the community to drive the project.

“The state government has pledged to continue supporting the university’s expansion plans, ensuring that the Osi Campus becomes a center of excellence in education and research” he added.

Professor Ambali was confident that the campus would attract students from across the country and beyond, promoting diversity and cultural exchange.

He hinted that accademic activities would take-off in Osi Campus with Faculty of Environmental which consists of programmes like Architecture,  Regional and Urban Development, Fine and Applied Arts,  Estate Management and other Allied programmes.

Earlier, the team paid a visit to the University Chancellor Engr. (Dr) Johnson Adewumi Bamidele who hosted the team in his Thomas Adewumi University (TAU)campus at Oko in Irepodun local government area of the state.

Also at Osi, the delegate also paid a visit to the former Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Raphael Osondu Afolayan in his Osi Residence and later proceeded to the campus to assess the level of job done.

KWASU Vice Chancellor

At the site, both the Council Chairman and Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction on the level of development, hoping that the next 2024/2025 academic session will take-off. 

The Council Chairman was accompanied by all council members include the Vice Chancellor Prof Shaykh Luqman Jimoh; Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Prof. Olubukola Christianah Dada; Registrar Dr Kikelomo W Sallee; Bursar Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sanni among others.
