There is a disagreement between Science and Islam on the concept and resultant effect of Death. Science espouses the believe that when the heart stops beating and blood no longer circulate, organs and tissues are starved of critical needs and they die one after the other which eventually results in the death of the body.
The body then disintegrates and serves as manure for plants. Science then points to greenish nature of vegetation at burial sites for its evidence. That is the end.
Islam, on the other hand, posits that when Allah decrees that one’s time is over on earth, He sends the Angel of Death to visit the victim (Q 16 v 70). Thereafter the soul is taken, leaving the body to disintegrate.
However, the Soul is preserved by Allah until the Day of Judgement when all things that had lived since creation will be awakened (Q 20 v 55) to give account of their deeds while on earth (Q 4 v 87). Islam points to the words of Allah, the creator of ALL things (Q 13 v 16), both living and non- living as shown in several places like Q 2 v 28; 4 v 87; 10 v 56; 75 v 3.
It is therefore imperative that we should strive to do good always so as to earn Allah’s pleasure in readiness for the day when we shall be called to account for all the minutes we spend on earth (Q 23 v 115).
