KWASU Ag.VC advocates gender equality in workplace

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU) Malete, Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh has advocated level playing ground for Nigerian women to pave the way for the talented ones among them to showcase their potential and progress in their careers.

Prof. Jimoh made the appeal on Saturday (August 19, 2023) in his address at the Investiture ceremony of Mrs Oluwakemi Obakemi as the Kwara 3rd Coordinator of Society of Women In Taxation (SWIT) and inauguration of SWIT executives held at Rotana Hotel, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The Vice Chancellor, who was the chairman of the occasion, said, “There is a need to break barriers and stereotypes that hinder the full realization of women’s full potential.”

He congratulated the new coordinator of SWIT and executives that will pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years, adding that their dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to advancing women in taxation have earned them the leadership position.

“It is essential to celebrate and amplify the achievements of women in the tax profession. Recognising their accomplishments not only inspires future generations but also challenges the prevailing narrative that career progression is an anathema for women. By promoting successful role models, perceptions can be reshaped and pave the way for more women to embrace leadership roles in taxation. “

“I also want to urge all members to work together with the state coordinator and the executives towards fostering an environment where women in taxation can thrive, progress, and be forces to reckon with in policy and decision-making in the profession,” he added.

The KWASU boss, therefore, enjoined the Society of Women in Taxation to continue to champion gender equality and work-life balance for women, benefiting not only the female folks but the society at large.
