NSSEC Executive Secretary suspended over alleged financial misappropriation

… ICPC to take over case

The Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, Professor Benjamin Abakpa, has been suspended.

In a letter of suspension signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Andrew David Adejo, Professor Abakpa, was asked to proceed on immediate suspension to allow the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) carry out full investigation into the allegations levelled against him.

The Permanent Secretary directed Abakpa to hand over the affairs of his office to the most senior Director of the Commission, Mr. Abdulkareem Ibraheem, who is expected to oversee day-to-day management of the commission pending the outcome of the investigation.

Professor Abakpa was accused by the entire Board members of the NSSEC of administrative ineptitude, financial misappropriation and lack of synergy “which led to the constitution of an administrative fact-finding committee to investigate the allegations”.
