A gang of 16 armed robbers on Wednesday robbed two conventional banks in Lapai, Niger state, killing two policemen, one civilian and carting away a huge amount of money that is yet to be ascertained.
The robbery attack started at around 5:45 pm on Wednesday (29th November, 2017) when a group of unknown 13 hefty men and 3 girls entered the town and subdivided themselves into three groups and two of the groups made their ways to First Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA) in the town.
The third group numbering about five blocked the police station to prevent the policemen from coming out.
The fully armed men of underworld also blocked all the strategic roads leading to the two banks, destroyed banks doors with explosives and robbed the two banks concurrently.
During the operations, the armed robbers engaged in sporadic shootings with policemen in the banks which led to the death of two policemen at UBA and one other person on the street.
As at the time of filing this report, all the shops in the area were under lock and key as the fear and anxiety of the robbery attacks still linger in the minds of the inhabitants.
When the highprofile crew visited the scenes of the incidents, the staff of both banks (first bank and UBA) refused to speak with newsmen.
