The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development in collaboration with the state’s Internal Revenue Service, has embarked on a state-wide monitoring of pre-schools and children homes to stamp out unregistered creches and orphanage homes operating in the state.
The exercise which commenced recently with visits to creches, kindergartens, pre nurseries and orphanage homes in Ilorin metropolis, according to the Deputy Director of Social Welfare of the ministry, Alhaji Oladimeji Fatai Hamzat, is to evaluate standard and track progress in those institutions.
Alhaji Hamzat, who is the Team Leader from the ministry, while speaking during the operation, disclosed that the visits are aimed at putting children schools and homes on their toes to ensure standard in them across the state.
The deputy director added that the visits are also aimed at improving the quality of education and ensure safety in those institutions by tracking progress and identifying areas of improvement in them.
According to him, the visits will also enable the government know the challenges being faced in children institutions and possible areas of intervention from the government.
He disclosed that the monitoring exercise will be carried out continuously across the state, noting that substandard and unregistered children institutions will be restrained from operating in the state beginning from the next academic session.
The deputy director however expressed disappointment that some children schools are yet to be registered despite the massive awareness created by the ministry.
He warned the authorities of children schools and homes yet to be registered or not up to date with the ministry to do so in order to avoid being sealed off beginning from next term.
Alhaji Hamzat also urged those who had registered or paid their renewal fee to obtain certificate from the ministry in order for them to be properly captured.
