The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari,CFR, has enjoined the new Maiyaki of Ilorin, Engr. Jimoh Kareem Maiyaki, to always be fair in the discharge of his responsibilities. The appointment of Engr Maiyaki was announced by the Emir on Tuesday.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari made this appeal in his palace on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) while receiving the new Maiyaki who paid him a thank you visit following his appointment as the head of the popular and historic Maiyaki family of Ilorin.
The monarch, who expressed happiness with the general acceptance of the new Maiyaki, urged him to see the entire members of Maiyaki family as one and the same people who all deserved to be fairly treated.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari also said that it is important for those who lost out in every leadership contest not to be embittered, saying that their children could make it in the future as it happened in the case of the new Maiyaki of Ilorin whose late father unsuccessfully bidded for the same position twice during his lifetime.
He, therefore, urged Engr Maiyaki, who succeeded his uncle and former Chairman of the old Ilorin Local Government Council, Alhaji Musa Maiyaki, to lead through consultation and exemplary leadership, saying that his appointment was approved by him not because he was the best in every parameter among other contestants but due to the fact that he was the choice of the Almighty Allah.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, who also congratulated the new Maiyaki on his appointment, prayed to Allah to grant the new Maiyaki long life, sound health and more wisdom and wealth as well as every other thing he would need to reign long and peacefully.
Speaking with news men at the event, Engr Maiyaki thanked Allah for His favour on him. He also thanked the Emir for approving his appointment as he expressed his profound gratitude to the entire Maiyaki family for accepting his appointment.
The new Maiyaki promised to lead with fascinating examples for his reign to be peaceful, progressive and positively memorable.
Among the dignitaries who accompanied the new Maiyaki to the palace were a retired Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Alhaji AbdulHameed Raji; the President of the Kwara State Association of Estate and Land Agents, Alhaji Mustapha Imam; the National Secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Mr Abubakar Imam, a retired Director, Kwara State Ministry of Works, Ilorin, Engr Bilihamin Fólorunsho; a former member, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. AbdulRasaq Bamu; a former Director of Personnel Management, Ifelodun Local Government Council, Hajiya Zirna Ismail; and a prominent member of the Ilorin Women Association, Hajiya Sikirat Maiyaki- Assayouti.
Also in attendance were Prof. Ameen Oloduowo of the University of Ilorin; Mrs Taofeeka Alase Abdulkadir, who is a retired Principal; as well as Alhaji Kamil Ojibara, who is also a Secondary School Principal.
