An Ilorin Area Court arraigned 39-year-old Ibrahim Isiaka, of Atere Compound, Apalara area, on Friday, over alleged theft of electrical armoured wire at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
The First Information Report through which the Defendant was brought to Court, indicated that he was arrested by the security operatives attached to UITH while committing the alleged offense.
The security operatives, according to FIR, later handed the Defendant to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Oke-Oyi in Ilorin East Local Government who brought him to Court for the offense of Criminal Trespass, Mischief and Theft contrary to Section 248, 362 and 286 of Penal Code Law.
The FIR stated that at about 0500 hours on the 9th of April, 2025, there was a power failure at UITH, Ilorin and the vigilante men on duty discovered that someone was cutting an electricity armour wire.
“While they are trying to trace the person, they saw you, Ibrahim Isiaka ‘M’ cutting the armour wire and immediately you sighted them, you started running away and hit your head on a satellite dish and fell down before you were finally apprehended and handed over to the police for discrete investigation”, FiR read.
The FIR explained that during the Police investigation, the Defendant confessed to the crime and stated that this is the 5th time he went there to cut the said armour wire before he was finally arrested.
The Defendant however denied the allegation.
The Prosecutor, Issa Abubakar Amatekun, told the court that investigation was still ongoing and prayed for another date to enable them complete their investigation
The Presiding Judge, Judge S.H. Ajumobi, admitted the defendant to bail with N500,000 and two surety in the like sum.
The Judge also ordered that the defendant be receiving treatment at UITH and report back to the court on April 25 when he must have been medically fit to stand his trial.
