Ex Osun Action Alliance chairman dragged to court over alleged defamation

The national chairman of the Action Alliance (AA) Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje has dragged a former chairman of the party in the state, Mr Bunmi Adetunji before an Osun State High Court sitting in Ede for alleged defamation of character.

Omoaje is seeking an order of the court for the withdrawal or retraction of a defamatory story published in an online news medium claiming that he (Omoaje) has been expelled from the Action Alliance by the executives of his Babanla Agate ward in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State.

An online medium had published a story captioned “Osun Action Alliance expels former National Chairman”, which was said to be a false report aimed at defaming the character of Omoaje who hails from Ede, Osun State.

In the said publication, Adetunji claimed that the decision to expel Omoaje was taken by the ward executives led by one Mrs Olusola Ajao and Mr Aminu Hammed, the chairperson and secretary of the ward respectfully.

A general form of writ of summons dated 13th September, 2024, prepared by Mr K.A Salawu and O.K Etibo
and obtained by our correspondent shows that Omoaje is seeking for an order of the court directing the defendant to pay #100,000,000 being compensatory and general damages for the defamation of the claimant’s character.

Also, the claimant is asking for an order of the court directing the defendant to write a public letter of apology that will be published in a widely circulated newspaper widely read in the country.
