The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday dismissed the suit filed by some members of the Action Alliance (AA) challenging the party’s national convention held in Abeokuta, which produced Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the national chairman of the party.
Some members of the AA including Chief Ukadike Chinedu, Mrs Nelly Nwaka, Samuel Oboro, Mike Madu and Princess Deborah Banjo among others had approached the court to challenge the last national convention of the party.
The National Convention held at the Obasanjo Presidential library was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and the media.
Also, members of the party from across the country attended the convention which was adjudged peaceful, free and fair.
However, some aggrieved members of the party approached the court to challenge the convention on the ground that it was not duly organized.
But the Federal High Court 8 sitting in Abuja in a judgment delivered on Monday gave credence to the party’s national convention, declaring that the convention was organized in accordance with the party’s constitution and it also followed all laid down rules guiding it.
Delivering his judgment, Justice J K Omotoso held that the officers produced by the national convention are recognized officials of the party, having being produced in line with the constitution of the party and in accordance with the rules guiding it.
Reacting to the judgement, the national chairman of the party, Dr Adekunle Rufai Omoaje hailed the judgement and described it as a landmark judgment which has brought an end to the controversies surrounding the leadership of the party.
With the judgment, Omoaje said all members of the party are to work together under his leadership for the overall progress of the party.
