The Kwara State Government in Partnership with the Positive Care and Development Foundation has launched a special intervention programme on clubfoot treatment and management.
The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-lmam made this known during the engagement meeting with the PCDF Foundation at the Ministry’s headquarters, Fate road, Ilorin, in Commemoration of year 2024 childrens day, Theme : “Investing in our Future Means Investigating in our Children “
Dr El-Imam said the commitment of the State Government to strengthening health care service delivery in all areas, keeps endearing and attracting development partners to the State.
She appreciated the new partner for choosing Kwara for the project, describing it as a welcome development with assurance of an enabling environment for quality performance.
The Commissioner, in a statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Falade Gbenga and made available to newsmen, assured the PCDF team of free assess for regular Meeting to ascertain the success and the State necessary support.
Clubfoot is a birth defect in which the foot or feet of a baby is twisted out of shape or position.
The cause of clubfoot is unknown. Babies with clubfoot are usually otherwise healthy.
In his presentation, the Consultant Surgeon Dr James Adeniran took the stakeholders through early detection and the referral for the clubfoot.
In her address, the Executive Director, Positive Care and Development Foundation,(PCDF) Dr Esse Nwakanma harped on the need to urgently scale up clubfoot clinical management in Kwara State.
Dr Nwakanma emphasized on the referral pathways and the incentives for every referral made by the Organization.
“PCDF clubfoot project is in Niger and Kwara State and the Organization is aiming at scaling it up to other North Central States by July 2024.” She said.
She promised readiness of the PCDF foundation to partner with the State Government to treat and manage clubfoot patients for five years.
Dr Esse, thereafter thanked the State Government for the warm reception and assured of their maximum commitment to the partnership.
In attendance were the Permanent Secretary of Kwara State Ministry of Health, Alhaja Afusat Adenike Ibrahim, and all Directors of the Ministry, CMD Kwara State University Teaching Hospital Ilorin, Dr Bola Ahmed, and other development partners for Kwara State.
