An inmate at the Oke-Kura Correctional Center in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, seized a rifle from a warder on Friday morning (March 8, 2024), shooting and injuring a roadside vulcanizer near the facility.
The victim, shot in the stomach, was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while the inmate was detained at the ‘C’ Division Police Station in Ilorin.
The incident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., caused panic among residents as the situation unfolded. Eyewitnesses reported that the inmate took control of the rifle during the transfer of prisoners, firing shots that struck the vulcanizer.
