The MMGIVIT Charity Initiative, a brainchild of late Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi, SAN held the 8th edition of the initiative on Saturday (January 27, 2024) with scores of less privileged returning homes with valuable items worth millions of naira.
This year edition of the week-long programme started with the Poetry Final Competition among secondary school students on Wednesday, followed with Career Counselling and Conversation with Community associations on Thursday while the grand finale took place on Saturday with free distribution of valuables (new and fairly used) to a number of residents of Ilorin.
The wealth redistribution cum medical checkup took place in the premises of Queen Hall, beside Captain Cook Restaurant, Unity Road, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
This year’s event was second of its kind to hold after the transition of the founder, late Prof MM Akanbi (died November 20, 2022). It was as organised and colourful as the previous years during the life time of late Prof. M. M. Akanbi.
In an interview with Highprofile on the sideline of the programme, the Chairman of MMGIVIT Charity Initiative, Professor Ibrahim Kayode Adam, said the founder has practically immortalised himself with MMGIVIT and other initiatives he conceptualised during his lifetime.
“This initiative happened in his lifetime, and we are grateful to God that it continues to happen from great to greater heights”, Adam said.
He commended members for their seal, resilience and commitment towards the steady growing and advancement of the initiative.
“I want our members to be more dedicated, more committed and attend to the huge demands of this initiative so as to collectively keep the programme afloat and put smiles on the faces of the less privilege members of the society”, he added.
Also speaking, the Coordinator General (CG) of the initiative, Dr (Mrs) Saeedat Aliyu, said over 500 people benefitted from the gesture.
Mrs Aliyu explained that the initiative has a greater impact on the lives of people and urged all and and sundry to cultivate the habit of giving out irrespective of social standing.
Similarly, the wife of the founder of MMGIVIT Charity Initiative, Barrister (Mrs) Shakirat Folake Akanbi, expressed gratitude to Almighty God that the initiative has outlived her husband.
Mrs Akanbi, who was visibly elated with huge number of items recorded at the event, appreciated what she referred to as impressive turnout of members and beneficiaries.
The event featured medical checkup and distribution of Items such as mattresses, television, furniture, wears, shoes, kitchen utensils, baby care materials, electronic appliances, among several others.
