Members of the Unilorin FM Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, have felicitated the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, on the Distinguished Media Profession Award (DMP) bestowed on him by the Omo Ibile Igbomina.
The umbrella socio-cultural organization of the Igbomina people worldwide, Omo Ibile Igbomina, conferred the honour on Mr. Kunle Akogun, on Thursday at an event held at Igbomina House, Ganmo, for his contribution to the development of Igbominaland.
A statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Unilorin FM Chapel of NUJ, Mr. Tajudeen Babamale and Isaac Lewu, respectively, celebrates Akogun’s well-deserved honour, saying the recognition is a right peg in a right hole.
The Union says the recognition of Mr. Kunle Akogun by his sociocultural people is a testimony to the fact that he is not one of those people who traded their source for whatever worldly things.
It says the honour is a reflection of the tremendous respect Akogun has gathered over the years following his selfless service to his community, Kwara State, and humanity in general.
While describing the honouree as a prolific writer, an accomplished journalist, and a mentor per excellence who has helped improve the lives of countless individuals, the Chapel says Akokun is a proud member of the union who has always shown commitment to supporting the chapel leadership financially, professionally, and administratively.
While imploring the Director of Corporate Affairs not to rest on his oars, the Unilorin FM Chapel leadership challenged him that the time to do more for his community, the University of Ilorin, and Nigeria is now when the ovation is loud.
The Unilorin FM Chapel, however, applauded the Omo Ibile Igbomina, under the leadership of her National President, Elder G. Y. Jimoh, for honoring one of their own.
