Akire of Ikire-Ile charges FCE, Iwo students on diligence

A prominent traditional ruler in Osun State, the Akire of Ikire-Ile, Oba Abdulazeez Olatunbosun Adebamiji has charged the newly admitted students of the Federal College of Education, Iwo to be diligent and focus on their studies.

In his remarks at the maiden convocation of the institution, the monarch lauded the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Olawale Akanbi for his meritorious roles in the establishment of the institution.

Oba Olatunbosun who commended the governing council and management of the college, urged the staff and students of the institution to be diligent and committed to their assignments.

He said “Matriculation is a tradition and yearly event in tertiary institutions. It is the formal process of acceptance into a college, polytechnic or university having fulfilled certain academic requirements.

“The ceremony is done to usher in new set of students. Once you’re matriculated, you become bona-fide students of the citadel of learning, free to enjoy all facilities and as well employ all opportunities within the ambit of the rules and regulations of the institution to achieve your goal.

“Today’s event is epoch-making being the first of its kind at the Federal College of Education, Iwo. I share the joy of the day with the management of the institution, matriculating students and their parents. Kudos to all parents who face the reality that education is the best legacy they can bequeath their children.

“It is imperative to commend Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi who led other eminent personalities in the struggle for the actualization of the establishment of the College. In this regard, the combined efforts of both Hon. Yinusa Akintola Amobi and Senator Adelere Oriolowo who are members of the green and red chambers of the National Assembly respectively to get the bill of establishment passed into law deserve commendation.

“Also worthy of note is the magic wonder of the Provost of the college, Prof. Rafiu Ibrahim Adebayo, the Governing Council and the entire management which catapulted into the enrollment of over 800 students who are matriculating today May 18, 2023. This is marvellous at this crucial time when other sister colleges are recording low enrollment.

“My advice to the matriculating student is that they should be serious with their studies, shun cultism and other anti-social vices. Don’t get emotionally attached to the flamboyant live style of your peers who are into Yahoo business. Everything that glitters is not gold. Be rest assured that the only path to enduring success is hardwork. In three years time, we shall all gather here to celebrate you on your convocation day.

“Finally, let me reiterate the need to embrace entrepreneurial training and skill acquisition for all students. This will make the products of the college to be self-employed and as well become employers of labour rather than job seekers after graduation. The mentality of white collar job is no longer in tune with the 21st century,” he added.
