The Balogun Gambari Youth Movement, a Non Governmental Youth Organisation from Gambari District of Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State has organised Qur’anic Competition in honour of the late Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), late Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN.
The competition held at Amule Government Day Secondary School, Okelele, Ilorin, on Sunday (April 16, 2023), featured participants from four wards that made up the Gambari District.
However, Ahmad Abdul Roqeeb from Ibagun ward came tops in the first category of the competition (4 Hizb), while Yusuf Abdulqudus also from Ibagun ward emerged winner in the second category of the (2 Hizb) of the competition.
In the fisrt category, Muhammed AbdulAzeez from Zango ward came 2nd, Sulayman Aisha from Gambari II came 3rd and the 4th position went to Izzudeen Fayyad from Gambari I ward.
In the second category (2 Hizb), Muhammad Abdulhameed from Zango ward came second, Sulyman Rayhanah from Gambari II came 3rd while Imam Yahya from Gambari I ward took 4th position.
Speaking at the event, the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Prof Shaykh Luqman Jimoh commended the organisers for deeming it fit to organise such a rewarding programme in honour of late Prof. Akanbi.
Prof. Jimoh who described late Akanbi as a unique man with numerous achievements in life, described the initiative to name the competition after him as a step in a right direction.
He therefore called on parents and guardians to attach utmost priority to western and Islamic education of their children, so as for them to become agents of positive change in the society.
The KWASU boss said the best legacy a parent could bequeath his/her children is sound and qualitative education, saying that Islamic education must be accorded premium by every Muslim parent.
The event was attended by dignitaries across the state among whom were the state Commissioner for Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, former Deputy Provost Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Dr Issa among others.
