KWASU inducts 111 Medical Laboratory Scientists

The Authority of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has inducted 111 graduates of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) with a call to the inductees to continue to pursue self-development so as to fully utilize every opportunity that will come their way.

Four inductees bagged first class honours, 43 clinched Second class honours upper while 51 and 13 came out with Second class honours lower and third class respectively.

Addressing the inductees at the well attended KWASU 4th Induction/Oath Taking Ceremony of Medical Laboratory Science Graduates held at the institution’ Convocation Arena on Wednesday (March 29, 2023), the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, urged the inductees to see their induction as just the beginning of their journey to building a career in the noble profession.

“Combine these with the never-give-up spirit of the KWASUSITE and like you sing in the KWASU anthem; light up the world with KWASU’s legacies.

“Kwara State University continues to prioritize the production of quality human resources in different sectors. Our graduates have set the pace in many professions as diligent, hardworking, competent, visionary employers of labour. They continue to bring glory to their Alma Mater,” the Ag. Vice Chancellor said.

Professor Jimoh described the event as a landmark event in the history of KWASU , adding that it is an exceptionally great one in the lives of the young men and women who were taking a big step into a prestigious career that impacts all of humankind.

” I therefore, congratulate today’s inductees for this great accomplishment. I also rejoice with parents, guardians, lecturers, mentors and well-wishers of our inductees for their contributions in making event a reality in their lives, ” he added.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor who paid glowing tribute to the late Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Olaroungbe Akanbi, SAN for his land markachievements within the short period he piloted the affairs of the institution, said his determination to make the University a hub for the production of healthcare personnel is still yielding fruit as we can see today.

” It was also his vision that birthed the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences which hosts the Departments of Medical Laboratory Science, Medicine and Surgery among others. While it is sad that he is no more with us, we would continue to remember and pray for the repose of his gentle soul. May Allah forgive his shortcoming, bless his soul with Al-jannah Fridaus, and take care of his family and relations,” he prayed.

Administering the induction and oath taking, the Registrar/CEO, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Tosan Erhabor who was represented at the occasion by Dr ……., advised the inductees to be good ambassadors of their alma mater and of MLSCN.

“All eyes will be on you, as you become role models to subsequent generations of Medical Laboratory Scientists. Let your conduct show that we are right to admit you into the profession and that you understand the sacredness of the professional Oath you are about to take.

“I encourage you to always avoid all forms of unethical practices capable of tarnishing the name of MLSCN. On no account should you present yourself for NYSC deployment without first obtaining your Practising License. If you attempt to do so, be ready to face sanctions from the Council. Be properly guided!,” he warned.

He commended the institution for its concerted efforts in ensuring that Medisal Laboratory Science is standing on a very good firm in KWASU.

“I would like to recognize the contributions of the University authorities for their efforts in stabilizing the Med Lab program here. Such efforts have yielded the positive results now culminating in the timeous graduation and induction of the students,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Head of MLS Department, Kwara State University, Prof. Nuhu Abdulrazak, thanked the University management for giving the department necessary support at all times.

Prof. AbdulRazak who presented the 111 inductees for the official induction and Oath taking, congratulated the graduands for being found worthy in character and learning.

Highlights of the event included presentation of gifts and plagues to the four first class graduates, along others.
