A fast growing educational institution, Sunflower Model Academy, on Tuesday organized Career Talk for pupils of the school as a way of creating awareness in the tender souls towards making informed career decisions for the future.
The programme was part of the school’s curriculum organised annually during which highly placed persons from diverse professions are invited to talk to the pupils on what their professions are and what it takes to become one of them in future.
In her opening remarks, the Proprietress of the Academy, Hajia Sururat Abdulazeez, charged the pupils on the need to pay attention to career guide as given by invited professionals whom she said are “men of proven capability in their various vocations.”
The school administrator, Shuaib Mohammed, welcome all pupils and invited professionals to the programme which he said is aimed at creating awareness on the future of the pupils.
However, a practicing Nurse, Sabina Ayo, spoke to the pupils on what it means to be a nurse and encouraged them on the qualities of a Nurse which includes care, diligence, passion and fear of God while attending to patients as a way of saving life and giving hope to the hopeless.
Oluseyi Dasilva, a practicing journalist and Kwara State correspondent of ARISE NEWS TV, spoke to the pupils on the need to exercise courage in the discharge of his work.
He expressed the need for truthfulness as an attribute of Journalists adding that “truth sets everyone who tells it free, no matter the threat against speaking the truth.”
“A journalist is a bridge between the people and the government and he or she owes it a duty to enlighten the people about activities of government in a way that the people will accept it and warmly welcome it”, he added.
Other professionals who spoke at the event are; Engr Adekunle Adelagun and ICT Specialist, Mrs Abdulsalam Nafisat, a Chef and Baker, Dr Babatunde Jamiu, a medical practitioner, Mallam Abdulganiyu Abduljaleel, a Special Educator and Barrister Umar Yusuf, a Lawyer.
Meanwhile, some of the pupils expressed the understanding of the career talk expressing their wish to make informed decision about a future career.
A member of the school advisory board, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, in a message made available to our correspondent applauded the management of the school for such a thoughtful programme to ginger their pupils towards choosing a future career.
Arowona, who is also the Shettima of Okuta emirate expressed apologies for his absence at the event and commended the high level of teaching impacted into the pupils by the competent hands managing the school.
“Sunflower Model Academy is the brilliant vision of a dynamic educationist. I am not surprised to see professionalism at play in impacting knowledge in the Academy”, he said.
