MMGIVIT 2023: St. Joseph College Clinches first position

St. Joseph College, Ilorin has won the first prize at the finals of the annual poetry competition sponsored by the MMGIVIT initiative held on Tuesday (24 January, 2023) at the African People’s Hall in ilorin.

The school had the overall best performance among the ten competing schools in attendance both in the senior and junior categories, the winners were awarded cash prizes among other prizes.

St Joseph came second in both the senior and junior categories, while His grace college won the third position in the senior category, their teachers were also awarded prizes for being the best teachers.

Other schools that competed are His Grace Secondary School, Ivy Hill Schools, Unilorin Secondary School, GDSS Oko-Erin, Muslim model, GSS Ilorin, and others.

The chairman of the MMGIVIT initiative, Prof. Kayode Adam urges the participants not to concentrate solely on winning but also use the event as an opportunity to soar higher and reach greater heights.

He encouraged them to inculcate the habit of giving to charity or any good cause and also put the needs of one another in mind.

During the event,a minute silence was observed for the late founder of the initiative Prof. Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi(SAN) who passed away a few months ago. Prof Kayode Adamurged the participants to keep the vision of the late founder alive.

The Chief judge at the competition, Dr Olanike Olaleru gave the participants tips on how to succeed in the field of poetry . She listed important points to take note of when reciting a poem,and how to use words in a creative way when reciting a poem.
