The Impact Driven Initiative for Sustainable Development (IDISD) and the Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria (APROCON) jointly celebrate the International Girl Child Day (IGCD) in kwara state.
The event which held on 11th October, 2022 with the theme, ”Our Time is Now- Our Rights Our Future” also held simultaneously at Sheik Abdulsalam College, Ilorin and Offa Grammar School Offa with 100s of school girls and teachers as participants.
The Executive Director of IDISD, Mr. Rabiu Olanrewaju Hanafi told highprofile that their plan for this year’s IGCD was not only to ensure that solutions were proffered to challenges facing school girls, but to also assist them in acquiring ICT and vocational skills.
He explained that in line with the theme therefore; experts, successful female entrepreneurs and leaders were invited to the two venues where they discussed the following topics: digital world-our world, my entrepreneurship journey, bleaching and its consequences, introduction to skin care and contemporary issues affecting School Girls with solutions.
Highlights of the programme were Keynote Address given by the SSA to Kwara State Governor on Non-Governmental Affairs- Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas, Goodwill message by SSA to Kwara state governor on Water Resource- Mallam Usman Ndanusa, discussions by different speakers, appreciation of facilitators, distribution of 100s of souvenirs and rolling out of scholarships and prizes to participants. These include:
- #150,000 university/college scholarship from KwaraNgo for 2 winners of Essay Competition among the participants.
- Graphic Designing skill acquisition for 2 participants at Akot Prints
- Skincare skill acquisition for 2 participants at Diyah Skincare
- Industrial Attachment to learn production of Flavored Dried Pap and Sweet Potato processing offered by Dara Signature at NSPRI Incubation Center for 2 participants.
- Three Terms Tuition fees scholarships for 4 participants by Ladies Pharmacist Association
- One term Tuition fees scholarships for 3 participants by IDISD and APROCON
- Cash gifts from Ggee Foods (producer of Ijebu Garri) and Cnsl Imam Saudat to aid livelihood and education of 5 participants
- Transport fare to support awardees of skill acquisition scholarships from IDISD
- 100 pieces of 1kg Ijebu Garri from Ggee Foods.

8. Gidado Shafahu Damilola– Sango Junior Secondary School, Okesuna
9. Kewulere Mariam – Ansarudeen Junior Seconday School, Ilorin
10. Ajiboye Iswat – Government Girls Day Secondary School Oko-Erin, Ilorin
11. Umar Fatima – Government Girls Day Junior Secondary School, Okesuna
The coordinator of the Offa Programme, Counsellor Isiaka Olaitan Gafar said the below 5 students went away with scholarships and prizes at the end of the day

The APROCON chairperson, Dr. Barakat Ibrahim appreciated IDISD for partnering her association in celebrating the day just as it was done in 2019 before the outbreak of COVID-19. She was thankful of the presence of the Kwara state government and lauded the office of the SSA on Non-Governmental Affairs for sponsoring the essay competition which she believed would improve the girls’ writing skills and avail them the opportunity to set goals for their future. Before leaving the stage, she also appreciated the Companies for the scholarships and awards, the School Counsellors, volunteers, the hosting schools and most especially, the Girls!
