Kwara State Government has cordoned off the Flower Garden in the capital city of Ilorin as part of its efforts to make the place a cynosure of eyes and a one shop stop recreation center.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Remilekun Banigbe, disclosed this on Thursday (August 4, 2022) during her visit to the site of the project.
The commissioner according to a statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Yakub K. Aliagan, and made available to newsmen in the state, also hinted that the project would give a facelift to the garden as a green area for relaxation and healthy social interaction.
“This idea of turning around the place will further beautify the State, generate revenues for the government, and promote work-life balance for the citizenry who can visit the garden for leisure purposes,” she said.
Banigbe said the Flower Garden landscaping and beautification is another effort of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration to reposition Kwara as one of the states that prioritise work-life balance and social needs of its people.
Bamigbe promised that the garden, which had long been a shadow of itself, will be revamped for the benefit of the good people of Kwara state, saying it will create new jobs and serve as an attraction site for economic development of the society.
She said a section of the garden has also been designed to house a Book Club for children, thereby promoting reading culture among younger people in the state.
She commended Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq for the huge investment in provision of social amenities, infrastructures and other laudable programmes that have impacted the lives of Kwarans.
