KWASU VC’s sibling launches book

No 6 Agba Dam road, G. R. A, Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday, 1st of October, 2020 played host to dignatries from across the country for a public book presentation authored by Dr Usman Oladipo Akanbi of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin.

Usman Akanbi, who is a brother to the current Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor Muhammed Mustapaha Akanbi SAN, presented a book titled “Connecting with my past.”

Speaking during the event, the Vice Chancellor of the KWASU, Professor Akanbi described the author as a pride to the Akanbi family.

The KWASU boss explained that Dr Akanbi epitomizes resilience, hard work, commitment and sincerity of purpose, which Akanbi family is known for.

He congratulated the author for putting up the beautiful book at this critical moment of COVID-19 pandemic, saying that the large turn out of people at the presentation is an indication of people’s unalloyed love and affection not only for the author but also to the Akanbi family.

Also speaking, the former Director of Academic Planning, University of Ilorin, Professor Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho described the author as a pride to the Faculty of Agric and the literary world in general.

Professor Omotesho who said he has been relating with the author right from his undergraduate days as his teacher, stated that Dr Akanbi was a very brilliant, humble and dedicated student.

He explained that he was not surprised with the author’s brilliant performance as a celebrated author considering his antecedent right from his undergraduate days, adding that he led the Student Union as President and held several other key positions while in school.

In his comment, the book reviewer, Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji commended the author for doing a great job and advised people to attach utmost importance to reading culture so as to have an intellectually sound and productive society.

The author, Dr Usman Akanbi said the idea of the book was mooted during the lockdown occasioned by the outbreak of coronavirus, saying that the book was a product of his thoughts and experiences in life.

He thanked everyone for honouring his invitation, pointing out that their presence ultimately added glitz and glamour to the event.
