Women of Reproductive Age have been urged to embrace modern Contraceptives Method so as to boost the health of mother, children and for the attainment of overall development of the country.
This call was made by the Kwara State Family Planning Coordinator, Hajia Biliqees Ibrahim while featuring on Sobi Fm as part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Contraceptiion Day (WCD).
She said embracing Modern Contraceptives Methods would assist in cutting costs of unwanted pregnancies and other expenditures that could run down the insufficient family income.
She explained that the World Contraception is marked every 26th of September to raise awareness about birth control and remind adults and adolescents of the need to make informed choice about their reproductive health.
The state Family Planning Coordinator further stated that the Modern Contraceptives Methods can be categorized into long acting and short acting methods, adding that the long acting methods are implant and utherine which can be used for a long period and reversible; while short acting methods according to her are injectables that can also be taken for 2 to 3 months.
Ibrahim therefore, enjoined women of reproductive age to adopt modern family Planning for them to live a healthy life, saying that it is available in 320 facilities across the 16 local government area of kwara state.
In her contributions at the programme, the Secretary, Awareness Initiative For Good living, Hajia Biliqees Modupe Oladimeji, explained that the World Contraception Day is set aside to create awareness and inform youths and adolescents on the importance of Family Planning.
She said that the advent of foreign Covid 19 has given rise to some of the challenges affecting family Planning, noting that “Child spacing is a world watch and its very crucial to create awareness for healthy family.
According to her, Awareness Initiative For Good living (AIGL) is an organization established to take charge of advocacy on family Planning with the support of Pathfinder international.
“Before, in kwara state there was no specific budget line for family planning and after alot of aggressive advocacy to the stakeholders, the state was able to create specific separate budget line for family planning which made the commodities available in all state facilities across the state” she said
Speaking on the theme for this year World Contraceptiion Day, the AIGL scribe said t access to save and voluntary family planning for women and girls will ultimately prevent abortion and untrained children.
This, according to her,, means that women are having unplanned and unwanted pregnancies, which could be avoided through the use of contraceptives or any suitable FP commodity.
