…. Charges President Buhari to take drastic action

The Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) has strongly condemed the spate of rape cases and killing of girls in the country in recent time describing it as horrible and frightening.
The Assembly said it recieved the news of gang rape and a murder of an 18 year old Barakat Bello in Ibadan, a students of the Federal College of Animal and Production Technology, Moore Plantation, Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State less than a week after a 100-level student of the University of Benin, Uwailas Omozuwa, was also raped and killed inside a church in Benin City.
In a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) Rt. Hon. Jonathan Olusegun Adekunle, Tijani Adewoyin says the Speaker frowned at the incidents and described the rape/sexual harassment has a thing that needs to be discouraged among humans, in our society and the nation at large.
The statement further called on the President of the federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari and all the State Governors, Most especially in Southern part of country to take drastic action against these evil and barbaric acts and declare rape a national crisis while also expecting the Nigeria Police Force to speedily and diligently investigate this case and ensure that all the culprits that are responsible for these barbaric and dastard acts are brought to justice.
The Speaker strongly agreed that women and girls safety must be paramount across Nigeria.
The Assembly also declared its interest in Uwailas and Barakat rape and murder cases and as well ready to join its voice to other civil societies in demanding justice for Uwaila and Barakat.
The statement also said the Assembly home and abroad expressed its deepest condolences to the Parents, families and friends of Uwaila and Barakat at this time of grief and pray to almighty God in his infinite mercy to grant them all the fortitude to bear the loss.
