The Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapaha Akanbi SAN has congratulated the pioneer Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari CFR on his appointment as the new Chief of Staff to the President, thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for the honour done to Kwara, Ilorin emirate and KWASU in particular.
Prof. Akanbi described the President’s decision to appoint the world class diplomat of great national and international standing as excellent, and assured that Prof. Gambari would bring his wealth of experience to bear on the office and in discharging his duty in order to justify the confidence reposed in him by Mr. President.
The Vice-Chancellor affirmed that the choice of Prof. Gambari as Chief of Staff to the President could not have come at a better time than now when Nigeria needs local and global thinking to get her out of wood in the wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the entire world, Nigeria inclusive.
The Vice-Chancellor further expressed confidence that his appointment would give additional national and international boost and recognitions to Nigeria which will ultimately take the country’s governance to the next level.
According to him, the respected Prof. Gambari’s career as an academic and international civil servant has taken him to far-flung corners of the world, including London, New York, Nicosia (Cyprus), Singapore, Rwanda, the war-torn Dafur region of the Sudan, Bellagio in Italy to Yangon in Myanmar, such that today, he is being widely referred to as a global citizen.
Prof. Akanbi recalled that since 1984 when Prof. Gambari was Nigeria’s External Affairs Minister, he has remained a constant figure at the international scene as Nigeria’s Pride, noting that KWASU benefitted from his intellectual and administrative acumen when on March 4, 2013, he was appointed pioneer Chancellor of the university.
He commended the new CoS on the indelible mark he recorded in KWASU, saying that his rich idea and administrative legacies have lifted KWASU to an enviable standard.
Prof. Akanbi also felicitated with the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, and the Ilorin emirate descendants as well as entire people of Kwara State over the CoS appointment given to a highly respected professor of international repute, a Kwaran and a Prince of Alimi dynasty in Ilorin.
Prof. Gambari was appointed Chief of Staff to President Buhari following the demise of the immediate past Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari of blessed memory who died in April, 2020.
