The Kwara Nurses Elders Forum has called on the state government to make the wearing of face masks mandatory for residents to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in the state.
The Chairman of the forum, Prince Suleiman Ayo-Fagbemi, made the call on Monday in an interview with the newsmen in Ilorin on preventive measures to curb further spread of Covid-19
Ayo-Fagbrmi, a retired Permanent Secretary in the state, said that compulsory use of the masks was one of the preventive mechanism to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, any type of fabric can be used for the production of the face masks provided it can prevent passage of micro organism through the nose.
He urged the Kwara state government to urgently make masks available and affordable for all residents of the state.
“The state government should be proactive towards the production of the face masks, make it available and affordable with minimal cost of N50 or N30,” he said.
Data from the NCDC shows that 11 cases of novel coronavirus has so far been recorded in the state.
