The Omupo Community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State has constituted COVID-19 committee to carry out all the activities relating to the implementation of all the activities on Covid-19 pandemic as may be directed by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kwara State Government in particular.
In carrying out it laid down responsibilies, the committee has donated numbers of PPEs to the Omupo Cottage Hospital and Basic Health Center, Omupo.
The constitution of the committee was borne out of community’s frantic efforts address the Covid-19 pandemic in the country by the federal and state governments by a way of providing a coordinated approach to address the pandemic and the directive of the Kwara State Governor to replicate same at the Communities levels,
The Committee which is chaired by Professor Minkail Buhari, is saddled with resoinsibilities to propose, develop and execute appropriate initiatives that meet the peculiar circumstances of Omupo in the face of covid-19 pandemic.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of Omupo Descendants Union, Mustafa Abubakar, and made available to the Journalists in the state.
It could be recalled that the National Executive Committee of Omupo Descendants Union (ODU), based on the Government directives,at its 9th meeting, held on Monday, 13th April, 2020, resolved amongst others to establish the Omupo COVID-19 Committee to carry out all the activities relating to the implementation of all the activities on Covid-19 pandemic as may be directed by the Federal Government of Nigeria and/or the Kwara State Government, and to propose, develop and execute appropriate initiatives that meet the peculiar circumstances of Omupo in addressing the covid-19 pandemic.
In view of the urgency to respond to ravaging covid-19 pandemic, the Omupo Covid-19 Committee, under the chairmanship of Prof. Mikhail Olayinka Buari, proposed the procurement of several Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safeguard the frontline workers of the Omupo Cottage Hospital and the Basic Health Center against possible infections. This was promptly approved and money released from the Omupo COVID-19 Relief Fund, into which several sons and daughters of Omupo and their friends had made generous donations.
The PPE items procured include several quantities of Gowns, Disposable Aprons, Infra-red thermometer, Face masks, Face shields, Boots and boot covers, Gogles, Latex and Nitrile gloves, 3M Masks, Hand Sanitizers, and other hygiene substances and materials.
In his comment during the handing over of the PPE to the Doctor-in-charge of the Cottage Hospital, the National President of Omupo Descendants Union (ODU), Dr. Monisoye Sola Afolabi, described the community’s gesture to the Hospital as part of its own contributions to complement the efforts of the Kwara State Government in safeguarding the health of the frontline workers at the Omupo Cottage hospital in the discharge of their duties during this period of the Corona Virus pandemic.
“Based on the directive of the Kwara State Government, the National Executive Committee of Omupo Descendants Union (ODU), at its 9th meeting, held on Monday, 13th April, 2020, resolved amongst others to establish the OMUPO COVID-19 COMMITTEE.In view of the urgency to respond to ravaging covid-19 pandemic, the Omupo Covid-19 Committee, under the chairmanship of Prof. Mikhail Olayinka Buari, proposed the procurement of several Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safeguard the frontline workers of the Omupo Cottage Hospital and the Basic Health Center against possible”,the president said.
Dr. Afolabi, said that while other hospitals were raising alarm over PPEs shortages in the State, “we felt Omupo should take a more proactive and supportive route as government cannot do it alone.”
He ,however, commended the donors into the Relief Fund, without whose benevolence the efforts might not have been as successful and it has been.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Hospital, the Doctor-In-Charge of the Omupo Cottage Hospital, Dr. Ismaeel Bakare, thanked the Olomu of Omupo, the National Executice Committee of Omupo Descendants Union and all the donors for the assistance.
He said that the provision of PPEs by the Omupo community will go a long way in safeguarding the frontline workers in particular and patients in general, adding that “… together we can make this go away…, and together we will succeed”.
He also said that “Provision of PPEs to the health workers at Cottage hospital, Omupo and Basic Health Centre, Omupo is a testament to our sense of responsibility in taking the bull by the horns as a community as regards our health. I am indeed grateful and we pray that we will not have any case of COVID-19 in our community”, he added.
Dr. Bakare, however urged all to adhere to instructions of social distancing, stay at home, ensure hand hygiene and stay away from public gatherings.
The Chairman of the committee, Professor Mikhail Olayinka Buari, thanked them for their support and wished that such gesture will continue anytime they are call upon.
Appreciating the support, some patients who are regular attendees of the cottage Hospital and Health Center, also congratulated the Kabiyesi and the ODU for the proactive initiative in providing Personal Protection Equipment for the Cottage Hospital and the Basic Health Centre.
They also prayed for long life for kabiyesi, and his reign to continue be in peace, unity, and prosperity.
