The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Muhammed Mustapaha Akanbi SAN has promised to consolidate on the good legacies left behind by his predecessors.
Professor Akanbi gave the assurance on Monday (April 20, 2020) during the official handing over by the immediate past Ag Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sakah Mahmud held at KWASU’s contact office, Sango area, Ilorin, the kwara state capital.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that he had begun moves to make KWASU a University of first choice in Nigeria, through introduction of best practice academic culture, robust staff welfare programmes, impactful community development initiatives and sellable academic programmes.
He called on staff and students of the University to join hands with him in his frantic efforts to give KWASU an academic and administrative face-lift, saying that all his line up programmes can only be achieved with cooperation and adequate support of the staff and entire stakeholders of the institution.
Professor Akanbi appreciated the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the the University, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah for laying a solid foundation for the institution, saying that his pioneering contributions to KWASU will not be forgotten in a hurry.
He thanked the immediate past former Ag Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sakah Mahmud for his own contributions to the progress and development of the KWASU within the period he led the institution in acting capacity.
Professor Akanbi particularly commended Professor Mahmud for being loyal to the system and for his openness to him since he came on board as the Vice Chancellor on April 1st 2020, with a pledge to continue from where he stopped.
Earlier in his address, the outgone former Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sakah Mahmud welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor to the institution and promised to work with him in the interest of moving KWASU forward.
Professor Mahmud said KWASU is blessed with good, dynamic and vibrant staff as well as obedient students, saying that the school is endowed with a lot of potentials.
He however identified fund as major challenges confronting the institution, saying that paucity of fund has been hindering staff from engaging in ground-braking researches that will not only enhace quality teaching and learning but also improve the institution’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)
Present at the handing over ceremony were the Ag. Registrar Mr Muhammed Shuaib, and the Ag. Bursar Mr Muhammed Sani.
