COVID-19: Share community sets pace

In complementing government’s efforts in containing the spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic, the Share Community has taken the bull by the horn as it set up joint Committee made up of the Share Descendants’ Union (SDU) Committee on Health and the Share Patriotic Movement (SPM).

The committee is shouldered with the responsibilities of sensitising and educating all and sundry on danger of the novel pandemic; source for fund to give palliatives to indigenes and training of health workers in the community and its suburb among others.

So, since the announcement of the partial lockdown in the state, all share indigenes both home and diaspora have overwhelmingly contributing to a dedicated account to support the committee in executing the project. The contributions are both in cash and materials. As some indigenes donated money, some donated foodstuffs, hand sanitiser, nose jacket among others.

The committee had since swung into the action in sensitising every indigene to adhere strictly to precautionary measures of priotizing social distancing, hand washing, stay home among others.

The National President of the Share Descendants’ Union, Elder Gabriel Yemi Jimoh had in his message to sons and daughters of the community, appreciated them for their patriotism and overwhelming contributions to the cause of ameliorating the resultant effects of lockdown.

According to him,” I hereby, on behalf of SDU Exco, express our sincere appreciation of our collective patriotic and positive response to the call for contribution towards palliative for our aged, widows, widowers and vulnerables at home to ameliorate the resultant hardship of earlier stay at home order now lockdown.

“The response is very impressive. May He continue to bless and sustain each and everyone of us.

“As a Yoruba adage says ‘ Bi ina o tan la so eje o tan lekanna’. The end of the COVID-19, the cause of the stay at home order is not yet in sight. That means we will still have to relieve our aged and vulnerable further.

“The just concluded palliative measures catered for 1,100 people at home. Details of incomes and expenditures will be given shortly. In essence, we are appealing to us to please continue to contribute to the programme ( both earlier contributors and yet to contrbute.)

“Let us see the programme as phase- structured. We sincerely thank the SPM, the Palliative and Medical committees, all who contibuted in one way or another towards the success of the programme as well as our traditional institution. We thank you all. It is our fervent prayer that none of us will be a victim of the pandemic. Thanks and God bless”.

Interestingly, the committee did not rest in its oars as it works assiduously to ensure total compliance to government’s order on total lockdown in the community when it discovers that some recalcitrants were flouting government’s order. In this regard, the committee held several meetings with the traditional chiefs in the community including the police and vigilante group.

The committee also engaged some medical experts to train health providers in both Share, the headquarters of the Ifelodun Local Government Area and Tsaragi, in the Edu Local Government Area.

The COVID-19 Committee Chairman who also double as the National President of the Share Patriotic Movement (SPM), Prof Abdulfatai Jimoh, disclosed that no fewer than 1,100 individuals benefitted from distribution of food items which was put in place to sustain compliance with the stay-@-home directives of the Kwara State government.

The initiative, according to him, was that of the SDU and SPM on behalf of all sons and daughters of Share in different parts of the country and diaspora, as a palliative measures to sustain the lockdown even as the nation and the entire world groan under pangs of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

Said he:”To them, it is meant to give back to the community, ensuring the people are in state of sound health and a way of complementing government’s efforts in containing the novel pandemic.

“In compliance with the social distancing guideline, the committee engages medical experts to train health providers from both Share and Tsaragi communities”

He added that food items distributed to aged and vulnerables in Share town, Fulani settlement and Apa-Aje includes; measured quantity of rice, beans, gari and semovita.

In his remarks, the Balogun of Share, Chief Olayiwola Balogun described the initiative as a welcome development and eulogised both the SDU and SPM for their thoughtfulness on the palliative measures and other programmes.
