Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) has lauded the state government for the appointment of a former Dean of Law, University of Ilorin, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), as the Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete.
The organization described the appointment as apt and timely given the pedigree and modest erudition of Akanbi in the academia and as Minister in the temple of justice.
A statement issued from the chamber’s Director General, Prince Suleiman Ayo Fagbemi, on behalf of the KWACCIMA council, said the new KWASU helmsman, who is also a member of KWACCIMA, has proven himself to be an excellent administrator in the past.
KWACCIMA thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for not yielding to undue pressure on Akanbi to sacrifice merit on the altar of other considerations, just as it expressed confidence in the ability of the new Vice-Chancellor to take the state owned varsity to greater heights.
The organization, however, urged Akanbi, a one time Chairman of Ilorin branch of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), to deploy his wealth of experience and consolidate on the gains made since the university was established.
“The Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) rejoices with our erudite scholar and minister in the temple of justice, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), who is also a member of KWACCIMA on his apportionment as the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete.
“The KWACCIMA council believes the appointment is apt, timely and well deserved considering the wealth of experience of the appointee, who has proven his mettle as a cerebral scholar and administrator in the positions he held in the past.
“Given his pedigree and modest erudition in the academia and as Minister in the temple of justice respectively, we are confident that the appointment of Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi as KWASU helmsman will open a new vista in the four walls of the institution.
“We thank Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sticking to the best and for not yielding to undue pressure on Akanbi to sacrifice merit on the altar of other considerations”, the statement said.
KWACCIMA appealed to the management and staff of the Kwara State University to rally round the new Vice-Chancellor in the task of expanding the frontiers of scholarship and infrastructure in the institution.
