Federation of Muslims Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN), kwara state chapter, has described late Dr Abdulkadir Salman Oniyangi (OFR) as a strong pillar of FOMWAN and an advocate of safe motherhood and healthy life of residents in the state.
The association in it’s condolence message signed by the state Amirah, Hajia Maimuna Shehu and made available to the press, said late Dr Oniyangi was as a passionate Gynaecologist and Philanthropist who used his wealth and health to better the lot of people.
Hajia Sheu on behalf of other state executive members urged the widow, Hajia Maimuna Oniyangi, who is the former State Amirah, and the entire family members of the deceased to take solace in Allah and remain steadfast, saying that death is inevitable for all souls.
“Kwara FOMWAN mourns the exit of an icon and pillar of support for the association, Dr Abdulkadir Oniyangi, husband to her former Amirah, Hajia Maimuna Oniyangi.
“The Association takes solace in Almighty Allah, for the fulfilled life he lived. The Group reflected on his unflinching support during and after the successful tenure of his amiable wife, Hajia Maimuna Oniyangi” the statement said.
Also, in their separate condolence messages, the National Trustees of FOMWAN in the state, the duo of Alhaja Raliat Sanni and Hajia Muslimah Kamaldeen described the death of late Oniyangi as painful and beseeched Almighty Allah to forgive him his shortcomings, make him dweller of All Jannat fridaos and grant the families he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The statement said Dr Abdulkadir Salman Oniyangi was a pioneer student of Government College, Keffi in 1954, after which he left for the Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria from 1955 to 1958.
He later went to the University College, Ibadan from October 1958 to 1965, then known as College of London University. He had his post-graduate course in Medicine from 1968 to 1970.
Dr Abdulkadir Salman Oniyangi was a member of the Board of Directors, Northern Nigeria Development Company, Kaduna (1984-1985) and became secretary to the military government, and Head of Service, Kwara State, from 1984 to 1985 under Group Captain Salaudeen Latinwo.
Late Dr Oniyangi died at the age of 85 years.
Dr Abdulkadir Oniyangi was the Proprietor of Hassanat Memorial Hospital and he was National Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from 2010 to 2015.
He is survived by a wife and seven children among whom are Ronke Osagie, Jibola Bello, Abdulazeez Yinka Oniyani, a former governorship candidate in Kwara, Abdulmumini Banji Oniyangi, a TETFund staff, Aminat Olatudun Emiola, INEC staff and Jumoke Owolabi.
