A chartered Accountant and globally Certified Management Consultant, Alhaji Abdulmumini Sanni Jawondo has identified systemic bad governance, decayed infrastructure, unfriendly business atmosphere and poor rural development as major factors that are responsible for dwindling economic status in kwara state.
Jawondo disclosed this on Monday (March 25, 2019) in his lecture at the 24th Media Parliament of the Kwara state Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), held at the council Secretariat, Offa road area G.R.A, Ilorin, the state capital.
He said it was very appalling and unacceptable that kwara being one of the first few states created 52 years ago is now ranked among the economically poor states of the federation.
Jawondo, who entitled his lecture, “Economic and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Potentials of Kwara State, also x-rayed the current challenges facing the economic development and revenue potentials of Kwara state and what is required to explore the economic and revenue potentials of the state to ensure a sustainable economic development for the incoming government.
The financial expert attributed what he described as a misplacement of priority to the potent obstacles in the economic rejuvenation of the state, pointing out that the decision of appointing an Engineer to man a finance ministry in the state was a clear indication of putting a round peg in a square hole.
Jawondo, who is also a renowned Tax Practitioner, disclosed that Kwara state has revenue potential of 5 billion naira monthly from the core revenue generated sectors alone without annexing to tertiary institutions and other parastatals that are not within the purview of the state IGR.
He affirmed that the infractions committed by the outgoing and previous administrations in the state have put the incoming government in a sorry state of inheriting a ecayed system that would require a lot of effort to ameliorate.
Jawondo, who is also a Forensic Auditor, however advised the incoming government of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in kwara to quickly identify the assets and liabilities of the state in order to know their true existence, ownership and beneficiaries.
“Forensic investigation needs to be carried out in this process because it is expected that there would be series of manipulation to falsify the documents and this can only be detected by experts.
“It is sad that some government workers most especially primary School teachers and local government staff are being owed salaries for moths. This needs to be investigated to know the actual salaries in arrears for prompt settlement so as to bring succour to the masses and relatively uplift their living standard’ he added.
Jawondo also advised the incoming government in the state to as a matter priority set up a think-tank committee for every sector with the mandate to interface with the communities and conceive workable ideas and strategies that can bring development to the state, adding that the committee should consist of technocrats, political leaders, academicians and other relevant stakeholders.
He equally advised the incoming government to appoint those that can add value to the system of government in order to deliver democratic dividend to the people of kwara in no distant time, stressing that there is urgent need to effectively move the state forward from the years of decay.
Earlier in his address, the state NUJ Chairman, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab sad the media Parliament, 24th in it series, was introduced by the state Council of NUJ to provide avenue for those who have made it to the top of their careers to share their experiences with the members of the public through an interface with media practitioners in the state.
