The Labour Party in Kwara state has congratulated the state Governor-elect, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Abdulrzaq of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for victoriously emerging as the next kwara state governor.
The party gave the congratulatory message in a communique issued in Ilorin on Monday at the end of it’s state Executive Council Meeting held at LP Secretariat, Offa garage area, Ilorin.
The communique was jointly signed by the party Chairman Abdulkareem Mumini Onagun, Secretary Rotimi Kehinde Ajiboye, and LP governorship Candidate Comerade Issa Aremu mni.
The party acknowledged that the victory of the APC Governorship Candidate in Kwara State was made possible through the massive support of good people of Kwara state and the historic alliance between the APC and the Labour Party as well as other progressive forces to consolidate on the joint victory during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
It stated that the joint alliance became necessary to collectively wrestle power and liberate people of Kwara State from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.
It also congratulated all the elected Senators, House of Representatives Members and members of the State House of Assembly, adding that the Party had earlier congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari whom it gave massive support during the Presidential/National Assembly Election on Saturday February 23 for his re-election for second term in office and lauded his spirit of sportsmanship by promising to run all inclusive government.
The lanour party reaffirmed it’s commitment to abide by the spirit and content of agreement with the APC in the great task of rebuilding Kwara State to the path of prosperity for all adding that it was a long road to restore the leadership role of Kwara state in education, health, infrastructure, industrialization and sports.
The party equally expressed its readiness to partner with the APC consistent with the joint Memorandum of Understanding for speedy transformation of Kwara State.
The labour party commended the people of Kwara State for keeping faith with democracy despite unfulfilled past promises and expressed optimism that the incoming government, having emerged through free and fair elections, would make a positive difference for the people.
It thanked the INEC and other security agencies for ensuring a successful gubernatorial election, even as it commended the political parties, their candidates and supporters for the peaceful and orderly conduct demonstrated during the election.
The communique called on all contestants to accept the wishes of Kwarans as expressed through the ballot box.
The party equally underscored the remarkable support of the progressive labour movement led by the Nigeria Labour Congress as well as the National leadership of the Labour Party in the course of the electioneering campaign.
The LP also appreciated to all it’s party men and women in the State as well as thousands of supporters for the confidence in the party and for adhering to the directive to vote en masse for the APC during the last election, noting that with good governance all Kwarans are winners.
The labour party however commisurated with the relatives of two Nigerians; Ambassador Abiodun Bashua and Professor Pius Adesanmi and all the 157 passengers and crew that died in the Ethiopian Airline 320 that crashed on Sunday.
