..mobilises support for APC
By Ahmed ‘Lateef
A former lawmaker representing Kwara North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Mohammed Ahmed, has assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win the forthcoming gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections in the senatorial district.
Mohammed dismissed as ill-timed the call asking the people of Kwara North to rally round the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Hon. Razak Atunwa, on accounts of the promise that power would return to the area in 2023.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, the former lawmaker, who is also the Waziri Yashikira, said it was an insult on the sensibilities of elders and opinion leaders of Kwara North for Bukola Saraki led PDP in the state to have deceived them with memorandum and agreement in whatever form.
Mohammed said the people of the senatorial were only interested in the development and improvement on their lives, which he noted, Saraki has failed to address over the years.
He expressed optimism that Kwara North would vote for the governorship flag-bearer of the APC, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, because of their desire for practical governance, integrity and fear of God.
The former senator assured that Abdulrazaq would not be a stooge to anybody, saying that the electorate would decide whether he qualifies to run for second term or not.
Mohammed faulted a statement credited to one Alhaji Abubakar Ndakangi that the people of Kwara North should vote for the PDP governorship candidate and maintained that the area has come of age.
He added that the victory of the presidential candidate of the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, in the area did not come as a surprise as he has always won the trust and confidence of the people.
“The leadership and the entire Kwara North APC stakeholders hereby condemn in its totality the call by one Alhaji Abubakar Ndakangi to the effect that, the people of Kwara North should vote Atunwa in the forthcoming Saturday elections. The speaker and his so called leaders should note that Kwara North has come of age. We have left the land of Pharaoh with all his oppressive grip on our people. We are now coasting to victory and freedom in this coming Saturday’s election, God’s willing.
“Alhaji Ndakangi’s statement is ill-timed, to say the least disrespectful and outright submission that Kwara Northerners cannot take their destinies into their hands. We are of the strong belief that only Almighty Allah crowns whoever he wishes, but for Bukola to be deceiving the people of Kwara North through intimidation and humiliation of our elders and opinion leaders was of an insult on our sensibilities and therefore cannot be taken for granted. Our traditional institutions must be respected rather than summoning them to Ilorin at any slight opportunity as if they are local government councillors, Enough is Enough!
“The issue of who becomes next Governor after Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of APC should be left to Almighty God to decide as we are no longer interested in anybody’s promises, memoranda, agreements in whatever form.
“What we are interested in at this material time is the development and improvement of the lives of our people, which Bukola’s administration has failed to address over the years. What we now want is practical governance, integrity and fear of God. It is an incontestable fact that, President Muhammadu Buhari had always won elections in Kwara North because of the trust and confidence that the Kwara North people have in him.
“We appreciate our teeming supporters across the state, who had spoken loudly during the last presidential and National Assembly elections. They should complete the journey by coming out to vote massively for APC in the coming elections.
“We urge our incoming governor not to be distracted by their latest antics and embrace all Kwarans, especially the mass defections from individuals and other political parties across the 16 local governments”, Senator Mohammed said.
