About 30 unemployed from Okene, Kogi state recently benefited from a capacity building for unemployed youths and women in computer application.
The capacity building training took place at the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), campus, Ilorin, Kwara state.
Declaring the training open, the Executive Director of ARMTI, Dr. Olufemi Oladunni stressed that ICT has a great impact in our daily lives and is one of the economic development pillars to gain national competitive advantage.
He noted that the right application of ICT can improve the quality of human life and provides wider knowledge and can help in gaining and accessing information.
On the application of ICT to agriculture, Dr. Oladunni disclosed that with the right application of appropriate technologies it is possible for Nigerians to practice profitable agriculture all year round in the country.
According to him, “lack of appropriate information at the right time will result in low productivity, low quality research works, and waste of time to pursue information and even to do research which actually others had done or in other countries. Nowadays ICT cannot be separated with our daily needs.”
He therefore urged participants to listen attentively and make judicious use of the capacity building program.
Highlight of the opening ceremony was the symbolic presentation of laptops to participants by the executive director of ARMTI, Dr. Olufemi Oladunni.
In her vote of thanks, one of the participants, Miss Ibrahim Nasifat thanked the facilitator of the training for his kind gestures. She also thanked ARMTI, the consulting firm and other stakeholders for a well coordinated training program which she explained had opened her eyes and her colleagues to ways to better themselves.
