A youth corps member currently serving in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara state, Olaosebikan Samuel Sunday at the weekend took everybody by surprise when he decided to renovate and build minds of students using competition as a good brain builder.
Sunday decided to creatively shun the usual phenomenon of renovating physical projects but toed a different path by coming up with a lofty idea of brain building programme using Spelling Bee Competition as a good platform.
The competition which had participants drawn from all secondary schools across Patigi Local government area, recorded a huge success, as the purpose for which it was organised was realised.
Speaking during the event, the convener of the competition, Olaosebikan Sunday said the notable loopholes in speaking and writing English words informed his decision to organise the competiton as a calculated attempt to renovate and build minds rather than the usual renovation of social amenities by corps members which will sooner or later become dilapidated one day.
Sunday explained that the avoidable loopholes in speaking and writing English words inspired him to organise a programme to unlock the potential of these students rather than going for projects like building renovation or construction of social amenities which will become dilapidated one day.
According to him, I chose to do what I consider to be more enduring and helpful like building and renovation minds.
Speaking about his experience in Patigi Local Government as a youth corper, Sunday said “My experience serving in Patigi local government has been an amazing one. I organize free tuition lesson for student, this has helped me become more tolerant ,also to serve freely without expecting reward”.
He added appealed to the government to improve the quality of education at the local level through training and retraining of exercise for teachers, and endeavour to build libraries that will be well stocked with valuable books for students.
Sunday also suggested that government should develop mental positive attitude toward regular competitions among students, adding that such action would make students to become more serious.
He equally identified proper and adequate supervision of the teachers as a key on ensuring qualitative education at the local level.
The competition which had parricipated 11 schools, produced the Apostolic Secondary School, Patigi as the overall winner.
