As the 2019 general elections gather momentum, the Congress of the Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral as an umpire and give all political parties a level playing ground so as to have rancour free and most acceptable polls in the country.
The CNPP secretary, Kwara State chapter, Prince Olufemi Adeleke made the call on Thursday, on the sideline of the stakeholders meeting that was convened by the INEC, held at Bovina View hall, New Yidi Road, Ilorin, the kwara state capital.
He charged the INEC to be unbiased in the discharge of its constitutional duties and endeavour to carry all political parties along in the scheme of things any time the need arises, adding that doing that will discourage avoidable crisis between political parties and the electoral umpire.
Adeleke also called on security agents to ensure adequate protection and safety of lives before, during and after the general elections.
The CNPP scribe observed that a lot of people will be disenfranchised if the exercise is marred with violence and other related security challenges.
He commended the leadership of INEC in kwara state for evolving various lofty programmes to ensure that the general elections in Kwara record a resounding success.
Prince Adeleke said the recent signing of the peace accord pact by various political parties, and other stakeholders in the state as some of the action plans being mapped out by the INEC to have a fraud free, violence free and impeccable election.
He pledged that the CNPP would continue to play its role, as a stakeholder in electoral process, in ensuring that the country holds the freest, fairest and most peaceful elections in 2019.
