Barely two days to the bye election into the House of Representatives vacant seat in Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Isin/Irepodun constituency of Kwara state, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pledged to conduct a free, fair and credible election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mallam Garba Madami disclosed this on Thursday in Ilorin during the official distribution of sensitive materials to Electoral Officers of the four local government areas where the bye election will take place on Saturday November 17, 2018.
Madami who addressed journalists shortly after the distribution of the electoral materials at the premises of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Ilorin branch, said all was set by the commission to carry out a violent free and impeccable poll in the state.
Madami disclosed that five out of 31 registered parties in the state are participating in the bye election, adding that INEC had recruited the sum of 1,855 electoral officers, both staff and ad-hoc to partake in the exercise.
He mentioned All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, People Political Party and Unity Party of Nigeria, as participating political parties.
The Commissioner disclosed that a total of 125,964 people have so far collected their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in the constituency where the election will take place.
Breaking down the total PVC collected in each of the four local governments as at the time he was addressing the press, Madami disclosed that 27,124 had collected in Ekiti, 50,492 in Irepodun, 22,483 in Isin while a total of 25, 865 had so far collected their PVC in Oke-Ero local government area.
While reacting to allegation that some political parties are conniving with INEC to maneuver the bye election, Madami said in a strong term that INEC did not and will not connive with any political party, stressing that the ultimate aim of the commission was to conduct election that all kwarans and Nigerians in general will be proud of.
