…produces 103 first class
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem has disclosed that University of Ilorin has invented a bullet-proof gadget.
Abdulkareem disclosed further that the invented bullet-proof had been tested and accepted by the Nigerian Army.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed this on Friday (October 19, 2018) at the press briefing as part of activities to mark the 34th Convocation Ceremonies of the University, held at the institution main auditorium.
Professor Abdulkareem said the invention of bullet-proof is a great indication of the university’s improvement on its immediate society and the world at large, adding that it was a gratifying achievement that will ultimately propel the University to the zenith of global recognition and reputation it desired.
He added that the University had equally signed a Memotandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Army on the invention of and development of polymer composite for strategic and protective defense.
He explained that University of Ilorin has been playing a leading role in terms of translating research in to practical as part of efforts to fulfil its obligation of providing community services through invention of various societal development driven researches.
“In the bid to intensify our efforts at generating knowledge that can change the world, we have proposed two innovative African Centers of Excellence, which will be funded bt the World Bank- one on Advanced Electrical Power Engineering and Green Energy Research (ARPEGER), and the other is on the setting up of West Aftrican Center for Infectious Disease and Epidemiological Surveillance” he revealed.
Professor Abdulkareem also disclosed that tin metal deposiy (Sn) has been discovered on the University land, adding that the discovered tin metal was in quantity and in good quality pointing out that it can be extracted for business and economic gains.
“In no time, University of Ilorin will be one of the opulent and prosperous universities in the world. We have begun to do the necessary paper works and agreement with the Federal Government, ehich, of coi3rdse, will take some time.
“We have also made efforts to bring in reliable investors who can turn it into a big business after we might have gone through the process of notification and approval from the appropriate authorities” he added.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor announced a total of103 students that bagged first-class position out of a total of 12,108 students that will convoke on Teusday, 23rd of October, 2018.
The sum of 2,553 bagged Second Class Upper Division, 5,750 with Second Class Lower Division, 1,660 Third Class while 36 students came out with Pass. Similarlly, the University produced 104 MBBS graduands, 18 graduands in Pharmacy, 49 in Veterinary Medicine and 23 in Nursing while a total of 25 graduands obtained Diploma from the Faculties of Education and Management Sciences.
He disclosed further that 10,330 are first Degree/Diploma graduands while the remaining 1,778 are graduating with Higher Degree/Postgraduate Diplomas.
The higher Degree to be awarded this year comprise 99 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,287 Masters from various faculties, 162 MBA/MPA/MILR/MGIS/MPH/MHPM and 236 PhDs.
